A little background info...

I am British, but my wife and kids are Aussie, and we've lived in Brisbane since Sept 07.  In Dec 08 we moved to Logan - where we bought an acre of land whilst we were still in the UK.

I have spent 20 years in the UK Special Effects industry and under that general category, have been involved at all levels of the sales and production of bespoke items and solutions for the British film and TV industry.

If i'm honest, I see myself as someone that never really found their niche, and special effects has worked well to keep me in a position where I can try lots of different things, without  having to 'specialise'. (Save being a specialist in being diverse?)

I'm used to working under pressure and connecting diverse bits of information to find solutions to problems that are new to me.  I deal with change and manage it calmly and safely.

In 2006 I graduated from the Open University in the UK with an MBA. I have serious reservations about the worth of an MBA, but it gave me confidence to think that my perspective on business is valid.

I have a first degree in 3 dimensional design.

I did the MBA in anticipation of an under funded TV SFX industry in Oz, and I thought my best option would be to develop the managerial side of my work further.  I believe in 'managing' people, rather than micro-managing budgets.  I think that approach yields better outcomes across the board, and employees get higher level rewards... (which come back to the company in the shape of commitment, creativity, customer service etc)

I am currently working with a handful of other like minded people in Logan, to improve the environment for creative individuals and organisations.  You can check that organisation out here (although it's a fledgling website) http://gluefactory.weebly.com/  This is an expanding area of research for me, and I'm trying to delineate how creative issues play (or fail to play)  upon government and social policy development in Australia.  Our intention is to develop this organisation to be influential in disseminating pro social viewpoints regarding citizenship over unconscious consumerism.
